2019 Event

The Gift of Listening to the Other

March 8, 2019

“There is a very important component to promoting women’s voices that is often overlooked: the responsibility of the listener. For a woman to be heard, she must use her voice. But it is also the responsibility of society to listen. For there to be dialogue, a true conversation, women must be encouraged to speak but society must also be encouraged to listen.”

Claudia Miatello, Committee Chair, CWIT

For this year’s International Women’s Day event on March 8, 2019, we asked five notable women from academia and ministry with varying backgrounds (art, drama, social justice, and ministry) to speak to the value and impact of listening in their particular fields: Katharine Lochnan, Sally Armour Wotton, Callie Callon, Mary Jo Leddy and Judy Paulsen.

We discovered that listening is not only an act of generosity and compassion but also lies at the heart of human connection.

Listen to the panelists share their stories on the art and importance of listening here.

This presentation was organized in cooperation with the Faculty of Theology at the University of St. Michael’s College.

The presentation was made possible by Morguard Corporation and Claudia & Paul Miatello.
